Happy Halloween
Hello to all the ghouls and goblins that will be racing about this eve in search of treats. My little ones are ram-ping up for the festivities and so our household is wild with excitement. I thought I’d send a brief message this week and share my Halloween tradition of Lady’s Fingers:

Lady's Fingers
I’ve tried this recipe all different ways. Added blood coloured icing to make them more frightening, tinted the dough green to make them look monster-ish. I’ve even dyed blanched almonds red to look glamorous but this is my preferred way.
Kids love to make them and it’s easy for them to shape them. I love to eat them with a great cup of tea! My grandmother has to turn them over to eat them as she doesn’t like the thought of how much they resemble her own fingers! HA!
Recipe: Lady’s Fingers
Ingredients
- 1 cup of butter, softened
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 2 tsp. of almond extract
- 2 1/2 cups of flour
- Whole Almonds
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or silpat. Beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy and add the extract. Gradually add the flour until the dough is crumbly and begins to form a ball when squeezed. Scoop out 1 tbsp. of dough into one hand and squeeze it between your fingers to form a long, gnarled finger. Place on a baking sheet and crimp in the middle to form the knuckle. Using your fingernail, make wrinkles in the top of the knuckle and press an almond into the end of the cookie. Repeat with remaining dough and almonds and bake cookies for 25 minutes, or until slightly brown.
